Vitamin D is a very important vitamin with multiple important roles in the body. It helps in the absorption of Calcium from the food one eats. It has some other major functions too, including modulation of cell growth, neuro-muscular and immune function, and reduction of inflammation. Vitamin D plays a major role in growth. It can cause Osteoporosis, hormonal disorders [including disturbance in menstrual cycle and infertility], reduction of immunity and in some cases even increase the risk of cancer. Though Vitamin D deficiency can be rectified, it may take time to revert to a healthy body function.
